Abandoning the newspaper feel, we opted for a feature-magazine format that was more visually appealing and engaging for readers. The result: an award-winning publication that, after four years, recently underwent a full redesign. In just a few years after the redesign, a digital-native version of the publication was born that cast aside print conventions in favor of a more interactive experience.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"tabs-container lts_tabs tabs_default  \" data-active-color=\"#119BFF\"><ul class=\"tabs \"><li class=\"tabli lts_tabtitle\"><a href=\"#\" class=\"tabtrigger\">Summary<\/a><\/li><li class=\"tabli lts_tabtitle\"><a href=\"#\" class=\"tabtrigger\"> Awards<\/a><\/li><li class=\"tabli lts_tabtitle\"><a href=\"#\" class=\"tabtrigger\"> Support materials<\/a><\/li><li class=\"tabli lts_tabtitle\"><a href=\"#\" class=\"tabtrigger\"> <\/a><\/li><\/ul><div class=\"lts_tab\"><br \/>\n<div class=\"lts_tab_child \"><\/p>\n<div class=\"separator light\">One of the biggest challenges facing a campus of physicians and scientists is presenting itself not just in terms of cold facts, but also establishing a compelling emotional connection. The former was evident in a newspaper-style publication that had fallen into irregular and infrequent publication. Upon my arrival at EVMS in 2008, I was tasked with implementing an alternative: a feature magazine.<\/div>\n<div class=\"content entry-content\">\n<p>The new publication resonated with internal and external constituents alike and earned various awards. Under my leadership, we brought management, writing, editing and design\u00a0of the magazine in-house after a year cutting costs nearly in half.<\/p>\n<p>In Fall 2012, we unveiled an extensive redesign that changed not only the graphic design of the publication but also adopted a more reader-friendly format and shorter articles that encouraged greater engagement with the magazine articles.
